25-03-2017 - MOSUL, Iraq – As the battle to oust ISIS from west Mosul continues, the militants’ latest tactic is to gather tens of civilians into homes as human shields and then take up positions on the roofs, firing at Iraqi forces, Rudaw’s Hevidar Ahmed reported from the city.
In New Mosul (al-Jadida) neighbourhood, an estimated 130 to 200 people in three houses were killed.
The cause of the blasts that killed them is unconfirmed at this time.
Ahmed reported they were allegedly killed in airstrikes.
Iraqi commander Brigadier Muhammad al-Jabouri said that 108 bodies had been recovered after an explosion in the same neighbourhood on Thursday, Radio Free Europe reported. He said the blast was caused by explosives laid by ISIS.
The Mosul Eye, an activist from the city monitoring the conflict, reported that an airstrike from an unidentified plane set off the explosives that had been laid by ISIS.
 Some families trying to flee are being separated. An Iraqi soldier carrying a child in his arms walked through a crowd of displaced persons asking who the child belongs to.
“We do not want any future. We just want to reach safety. My God, people, the world, where are you? Please help us,” one woman cried.
