The world needs to know what Kurdistan wants
Among the voters the Referendum for Independence of the Country from Iraq
25-09-2017 - We are in Ankawa, the Christian district of Erbil, where Muslims and Christians live serenely, without any problems and with mutual respect.
We enter the "Hamuraby" school, one of the many schools in the city where the Kurds go to express their vote in the referendum.
We speak with many voters; all express a unique concept: Kurdistan must be an independent nation.
A teacher speaks freely with us: "We are ready to be free, we have the oil, we have the gas, we have the money ... to be still slaves of Iraq selling our oil, but do not pay us?"
But Turkey does not agree, let's say it.
"Do not Turkey agree? Is Its a problem.” replied the teacher.
"I am happy, happy, happy" with the only English words she knows expresses a lady showing us the index finger stained with ink.
A young man, with excellent English, explains that the intention to become independent of Iraq is right, and now that if Turkey does not see the referendum of good eye, it is because many of the Kurds are afraid they can create problems, following the independence project.
"Kurdistan must be compensated," says an elder Peshmerga, showing us the visible scar on his arm, caused by serious injuries during the persecution of the Kurds by Saddam Hussein. And he gives us a cautious and emphatic interview in Arabic, without knowing English, in support of his deep conviction that the country must get free from Iraq.

Whole families enter the school where the tables are with the registers for the vote, coming proud with the stained ink index.

They feel it a duty, but for them it is also a great satisfaction: how do they see the future? what do they think about the grievances of countries that do not accept the outcome of the referendum? Do they fear negative repercussions following the request for independence?
A unique voice: nothing will happen, inshallah, because Kurdistan is a country willing to dialogue.
Mowaffak al-Rubai, who is an Iraqi deputy from the Shiite national alliance and Iraqi National Security Adviser, expressed his opinion:
"The pace adopted by some racists in Kurdistan will bring instability to the whole region for years to come."
Meanwhile, for now, we know that it voted 97.38% of the population. Of the 2.62% who did not vote, they are part of the Peshmerga that are currently occupied on the front, defending the borders from the attacks of ISIS, which today, 25 September, engaged the Peshmerga in the town of Faloja, where one of them has lost his lives.
Turks and Iraqi Arabs are now having joint military manoeuvres at South-North Kurdistan border (Iraq-Turkey). Not long ago, the two countries were on the brink of war over Tal Afar, but today they are united by one thing: their anti-Kurdish agenda; but even arabs from Mosul and Talafar, Kirkuk and Khaneqin are voting and they like to be Kurdish citizens.
