16-02-2018 - Afghan National Police (ANP) and public uprising forces have secured seven security check posts that were in danger of falling to the Taliban in Qaisar district of Faryab province, local security officials said on Thursday.
According to the provincial police chief Nezamuddin Qaisari, the Taliban attacked a check post on Tuesday night and seized control of the facility after killing four policemen.
He said after this attack, local police and public uprising forces launched an operation to retake the check post and secure others in the area. He said the Taliban retreated from the area after 23 insurgents were killed.
Qaisari stated security forces also seized weapons belonging to the insurgents.
The police chief claimed that the attack had been carried out by about 1,000 insurgents who had hoped to seize control of the other check posts.
“Four police, three public uprising forces and 23 Taliban insurgents were killed during the clashes,” he said.
Meanwhile, Faryab Ulema announced their support to security forces but criticized government for not having what they called a proper security plan in place for the province.
