Iraqi Kurdistan Region officially protests against Iran for distorting facts through
25-01-2021 - The Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government objected to the content of the short film, which claimed that "if it were not for Soleimani, Erbil would have fallen into the hands of ISIS", calling it a distortion of facts and facts.
The Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced on Sunday afternoon that it had submitted an official memo to the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil protesting the distortion of the truth about the war against ISIS, which is contained in the short film "Soleimani”.
Rejecting the content of a video released by Fars News Agency, close to the Revolutionary Guards, as “Qassem Soleimani saved Iraqi Kurdistan”, officials in Iraqi Kurdistan said that Iran had helped the Peshmerga in terms of weapons but was not allowed to distort events and facts.
According to the Rodav network, in this 9-minute film, it is claimed that Qassem Soleimani saved the Kurdistan region from ISIS when ISIS approached Erbil, and if it were not for Soleimani, Erbil would have fallen to ISIS.
The Kurdistan Regional Government has called the narration of this film a ”distortion of reality”.
Iraqi Kurdish regional officials said that although the international community and Iran had helped Kurdistan fight ISIS, it was the Peshmerga forces who fought hard on the battlefield.
Officials from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) stressed that more than 1,800 Peshmerga forces were killed and more than 10,000 Peshmerga were wounded in the war against ISIS.
The film states that no country has been willing to support Massoud Barzani, the then head of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, in the fight against ISIS, and that only Soleimani has agreed to attend and send weapons to the region.  If the whole world knows that the air force of the International Coalition and the Peshmerga of Kurdistan were able to defeat ISIS.
Massoud Barzani, the then head of the Kurdistan Region, had previously stressed that what the media in Iran had said about his telephone conversation with Soleimani was "exaggerated."
The Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) also called the content of the film in media outlets close to the Revolutionary Guards "baseless."
Abdul Khaliq Mohammed, director of the media office for foreign relations in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, also said that the released film was a "distortion of reality" and that it was not in the interests of the two sides to work together.
Nasrullah Rashnoodi, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil, said that we have nothing to do with this film and have long-term relations with our friends in the Kurdistan region.
Rashnoodi also said that the source of the release of this film is unknown and it is possible that some people are trying to destroy our relations with the Iraqi Kurdish region.
The Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil also said that Qassem Soleimani had great respect for Barzani and that the officials of the Islamic Republic wanted to expand relations with the Kurdistan Region, especially with Massoud Barzani.
