Three-year-old injured in Turkish bombardment in Rojava: local media
by Dilan S. Hussein for Rudaw.net
23-11-2020 - ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — A three-year-old child was injured in a bombardment by Turkey and its Syrian proxies in northern Syria (Rojava) on Friday, according to local media.
The bombing took place on Sunday afternoon in Ain Issa, a town in northern Raqqa province nearly 35 kilometers from the Turkish border, Hawar News Agency (ANHA), a media outlet close to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported.
As a result of the attack, a three-year-old child by the name of Mahmood Zeid and two other civilians were injured, according to the report. The two adults injured are Muhi-al-din Haji Balgh, 35, and Manhal Ahmad Obeid, 22.
The injured were immediately transferred to Ain Issa hospital where their wounds were treated.
Ain Issa, located in Gire Spi (Tal Abyad) district in northern Syria, is partly controlled by the SDF.
Turkey launched Operation Peace Spring against the SDF in October 2019, taking control of Gire Spi and Sari Kani (Ras al-Ain) before reaching ceasefire agreements with Russia and the USA. However, the neighboring country has regularly bombarded SDF-held areas with Turkish-back forces since then.
Under a ceasefire agreement to end Turkey’s offensive into Rojava last October, Russia and the Syrian regime are responsible for securing the area.
Eight-year-old Hatem Zeidan was killed in a similar strike on October 16, while riding a donkey near the town's abandoned IDP camp as Turkey bombed the area, according to David Eubank from the Free Burma Rangers and the child's father.
