U.S. control over Greenland means closing the Arctic gateway to the Russian fleet and cutting off China's new trade routes. By doing this, the U.S. connects the Northern Corridor with the Southern Corridor (Mediterranean and Suez), ensuring that rivals like Russia and China have no "maritime breathing room’’.
Turkey and Libya: An Attempt to Break the Siege
As the renowned geopolitician Robert Kaplan discusses, Turkey is attempting through Libya to break the maritime marginalization imposed on it by the alliance of Israel, Greece, and Cyprus. Turkey knows that if it retreats in the Mediterranean, it will lose its status as a regional power.
Therefore, it resorts to a "maritime Sykes-Picot" to secure its share of global gas.
The U.S. Maxim and the New Reality
The U.S. always says: "We have permanent interests, not permanent friends." This strategy has been clearly reflected after 2023. The U.S. is willing to pressure even its old friends, like Turkey, just to ensure that all the world’s straits—from Hormuz to Suez and Greenland—remain under the thumb of the American navy.
The Position of the Kurdistan Region: The Heartland
Here, Kurdistan becomes the point where "land geopolitics" and "maritime geopolitics" converge. When the waters become a field of conflict and blockade, the Kurdistan Region—as a stable zone under the shadow of the Barzani doctrine—becomes the only peaceful alternative for the passage of energy and trade from East to West without falling into maritime traps.
