Afghanistan granted $1.53b in humanitarian aid this year

22-03-2023 - KABUL (Pajhwok): In 1401 solar year, Afghanistan has received cash aid amounting $1.53 billion as a part of the global fraternity’s humanitarian assistance.
In last 16 months, a total of nearly two billion dollars cash aid reached Afghanistan.
After the regime change, the US imposed sanctions on the acting Afghan government and froze Afghanistan’s over $9 billion reserves that triggered economic crises in the war-torn country but later the international community started giving humanitarian support to Afghanistan.
According to the central bank, in the last four months of 1401 solar year, a total of these cash aid arrived Kabul reached $454.4 million.
About 32 million cash assistance arrived 13 times and $40 million 28 times in Afghanistan this year. The latest cash aid packaged reached Kabul on March 14.
Hasibullah Noori, deputy spokesman for DAB, told Pajhwok that US, European Countries and some other nations provided the aid.
“As it is known from its name, its humanitarian assistances and spent in humanitarian areas,” he added.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said last month that the UN cash aid to Afghanistan was kept in a private bank.
Economic Affairs Expert Qais Mohammadi said foreign humanitarian cash aid had a positive impact on the lives of the people of Afghanistan. “This is not important from where the amount comes, the important thing is its positive impact on the economy of Afghanistan. When the amount goes to the DAB, it has a positive impact on the value of Afghan currency and the fact that the afghani maintained its value was due to the arrival of this aid,” he said.
