HDP delegation will visit Erbil to 'increase coordination' among Kurdish partie
From Rudaw.net
06-04-2018 - ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A delegation from Turkey's pro-Kurdish democratic People’s Party (HDP) will visit the Kurdistan Region on Saturday to meet with political parties and KRG officials to “get the Kurdish house in order” and express condolences over the loss of Dilovan Barzani, the twin brother of Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani.
They will meet with former president Masoud Barzani, Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, and individual political parties, HDP’s envoy to the KRG, Abid Ika, told Rudaw.
“The recent conditions of the region, the Kurdistani parties getting closer to each other and establishing national unity will be discussed,” Ika added.
The HDP delegation is composed of co-chair Pervin Buldan, and deputies Osman Baydemir, Feleknas Uca, Imam Tascier, and Berdan Ozturk. The meetings will take place in Erbil.
HDP spokesperson Ayhan Bilgen told Rudaw from Turkey that the main aim of the visit is the strengthening of ties and increasing coordination with the Kurdistan Region’s political parties.
Kurdish parties in Turkey, Syria, and the Kurdistan Region are under increased pressure by Ankara because of the presence of People’s Protection Units (YPG) fighters and Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) guerrillas in the shared mountainous border areas.
Bilgen described recent developments on the ground in the region as “very complicated.”
Turkey conducted a three-month assault on the YPG-held canton of Afrin. It escalated bombing campaigns in the Kurdistan Region in March, and has threatened operations in the Yezidi homeland of Shingal, and US-backed, YPG-held areas east of the Euphrates in Syria.
“We hope the visit become a factor to bring about peace and stability in the region and the Middle East and lead to increased joint coordination,” said Bilgen.
HDP MP Ali Tatlan said “the aim of the HDP delegation’s visit will be to meet the political parties."
He said it was true that HDP was established in Turkey “but it works with the Kurdish spirit.”
There have been questions about Kurdish unity amid Turkey’s assault on Afrin. HDP officials risked arrest if they spoke out against the deadly operation by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Kurdish National Council (ENKS), Syrian Kurds with offices in Turkey and the Kurdistan Region, continue to be at odds with PYD, the armed wing of the YPG. A Rojava court has issued arrest warrants for ENKS members, alleging support for the Turkish state’s operation in Afrin.
“Therefore it must be normal if it works to help get Kurdish house in order and for Kurdish unity,” added Tatlan.
Adam Gavari, another HDP also weighed in, calling for “work towards unity within the Kurdish house.”
“Unity, coordination and diplomatic relations between the Kurdistan parties is necessary,” he added.
Taj Bujak, the deputy head of the Turkey’s Kurdistan Democratic Party - North also deemed the HDP visit to the Kurdistan Region as “important” in order to bring about “stability” in relations between the Kurdish parties across greater Kurdistan.
The KDP in Turkey hold no seats in parliament.
Bujak also commended Parveen Buldan’s leadership as the new HDP co-leader expressing that she works to bring Kurdish parties in Turkey together and forges close ties with all of them.
Hassan Daghtakin, deputy leader of the Revolutionary Party of Kurdistan (PSK), echoed the importance of the visit at this crucial time, saying it will be a “positive step forward.”
The visiting officials will also pay their respects to the Barzani family on the passing of Dilovan Barzani, twin brother of the prime minister who died this week of a heart attack, according to Adam Gavari, a HDP deputy from Van.
“The visit will basically be for the funeral,” added Speaker Bilgen.
HDP has been a strong supporter of Kurdish unity and supported the Kurdistan independence referendum, sending observers to monitor the referendum.
